Messolonghi By Locals is a cultural organization in Messolonghi, Greece, dedicated to preserving the region’s unique character through traditions, environmental awareness, and authentic connections between locals and visitors. Their flagship event, the annual Messolonghi Festival, brings together residents and tourists for workshops, outdoor activities, storytelling, local food, art, and music , blending entertainment with cultural and environmental education.

I was once again commissioned to design the festival’s complete visual identity, from colour palette and typography to illustrations and graphic elements, creating a flexible system for both digital and print. The goal was a vibrant, inviting look rooted in Messolonghi’s cultural and natural heritage. Working closely with the team, I guided the project from concept to final delivery, ensuring the design reflected the spirit and values of the festival.

The Challenge

Creating a visual identity for the Messolonghi Festival that resonates with both tradition-valuing locals and experience-seeking visitors.

The Messolonghi Festival required a visual identity that could effectively bridge two distinct audiences: locals deeply connected to the region’s traditions, and visitors eager for fresh, vibrant experiences. The design needed to be lively and inviting to draw a diverse crowd while maintaining authenticity and respect for the area's cultural and natural heritage. Additionally, the identity had to be versatile enough to adapt seamlessly across a variety of formats, from large outdoor signage and merchandise to social media graphics and printed programs—without losing cohesion. The core challenge was crafting a visual language that honors the past, energizes the present, and inspires continued engagement with the festival’s future.

Initial Brainstorming & Research

After the client answered a range of questions regarding the brand, the story, the vision and values of the company, I started going deeper and researching existing festivals, facts about the organisation and the town.
